Scarlett Johansson and Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o are reportedly in talks to star in a new adaptation of The Jungle Book. 12 Years A Slave's Lupita Nyong'o is poised to voice the character of mother wolf Rakcha, while honey-voiced Scarlett Johansson will lend her dulcet tones to the villain python Kaa. British actor Idris Elba has already signed up to play tiger Shere Khan, while the hunt is currently on for Mowgli.

Rudyard Kipling's 1894 classic follows the adventures of Mowgli, a young boy who lives in the jungle amongst animals who talk. Each story acts as a fable, with Mowgli learning lessons from the animals about the difference between right and wrong. The stories were first brought to the big screen in a live action version in 1942, with Disney's animated version of 1967 proving enduringly popular. The Jungle Book is scheduled for release in October 2015.
