Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht
Located in what was once the main city library, Andaz Amsterdam fittingly takes its theme from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Staying at the Marcel Wanders-designed Andaz is like booking into a Surrealist painting where furniture perches on oversized legs and walls are adorned with giant spoons and goldfish. Of course, if the endless quirky touches become just a little too much you can always retreat to the hotel's tranquil garden or luxury spa to recover.

The Beaumont, Mayfair, London
It's not often you're allowed to touch an artwork - let alone sleep in one - but this is exactly what Antony Gormley's new installation at The Beaumont Hotel invites you to do. ROOM, in essence a 10-metre-by-4-metre bedroom, is an evolution of Gormley's work with the human form, and appears from the outside as a giant figure crouching on the hotel's façade. Enter through the black curtains, however, and the dark wood panelling and crisp Egyptian cotton sheets embue a peaceful, spa-like feeling. Experience complete darkness (and the guarantee of a good night's sleep) thanks to the addition of a stunning shuttered window.

The Beaumont will reopen in Autumn 2014, visit thebeaumont.com.
